Video of Ian Muir, Manager of AECL’s Reactor Chemistry and Corrosion Branch
Ian Muir, Manager of AECL’s Reactor Chemistry and Corrosion Branch outlines his team’s efforts to better understand the corrosion mechanism affecting the NRU reactor vessel.
(September 9, 2009)
Ian outlines his team’s efforts to better understand the corrosion mechanism affecting the NRU reactor vessel and explains that the annulus of the aluminium vessel contains oxygen, nitrogen, radiation and moisture that have lead to nitric acid build-up affecting the aluminium oxide film of the NRU reactor. In this video, Ian describes the next steps in assessing how AECL can neutralize this condition within the reactor vessel.
